Design

Reflecting back on the re-design through re-cut project I've learned that I enjoy the ribbon technique because it's a way to make an ordinary shaped garment unique. Especially at the moment when people want to purchase pieces with longevity, having a basic shape but interesting seams/darts makes the garment different but still timeless.

One thing I miss is researching suitable fabrics for the final garment and to inspire ideas. Due to the pandemic its difficult to source samples but perhaps researching online could help me. The crop jacket would have a different style and feel if it was made from wool compared to leather for example.

Finally , to improve this project it would have been beneficial to try the garment on a person or myself throughout the toiling process, not just the mannequin. This would let me see if the shape, proportions and details look correct on a moving body. The neckline of the jacket was too wide and had to be brought in which I didn't realise until trying it on.
